OPPORTUNITIES
Outlier Producing Assistant

The Outlier creative team is looking for a Producing Assistant to join the team as they undertake their rehearsal and performance period at Bristol Old Vic. This role is an entry level role aimed at someone aged 18-25, not in formal education, who is looking to build a career in the creative industries.

Outlier is a show written by Malaika Kegode and performed by Malaika and live band Jakabol. It is somewhere between a gig and a theatre show, so we want to work with someone who is passionate about both music and theatre. The show’s story explores the impact of isolation, addiction and friendship on young people in the often forgotten places. You will be working alongside Outlier producer Liz Counsell and will gain experience working on an Arts Council funded project in the run up to its first production run in 2021.

This role will include training and shadowing opportunities, so we are looking for someone who might be interested in a career in arts producing in the future but who has not had direct experience assisting in a producing role on a professional production.

Some key tasks for this role include:

  • Liaising with company freelancers to remind them of schedules

  • Supporting the producer in day to day budget management (training provided) and making sure we’re up to date with payments to freelancers and suppliers.

  • Creating and scheduling content for social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook & Instagram (training provided)

  • Helping to coordinate industry invitations to invite people to come and see the show.

  • Helping to think of new and exciting ways we can get new audiences in the door to see the show

  • Prop sourcing

This list isn’t exhaustive as we are interested in you getting the most out of becoming an active part of the team.

Working hours are flexible and can be scheduled to fit in around your other commitments and the Producer’s working days on the project. However you will need to be based within easy reach of Bristol as being present in the rehearsals and around dates is necessary.

The Producing Assistant will be managed by the Producer. The Producing Assistant will also have access to an Artist Well-being practitioner throughout the process.

Informal Q&A Session: We’re hosting an informal Q&A session on Zoom for anyone who is interested in the role on Wednesday 17th March at 7pm - here you can meet some of the team and ask any questions you might have about the role or the application process.
To sign up for the Q&A please email Outlier producer Liz at hello@lizcounsell.com with OUTLIER Q&A in the subject of your email and we can send you the zoom link. If you have any access needs then please do let us know.

Fee: £90 per day, for a total of 8 days (£720 inclusive fee) between April 2021 and the Production dates in June 2021. The role is offered on a freelance basis and you will be responsible for paying any NI or tax contributions payable on your income.

Deadline for Applications: 25th March - 5pm

Informal Interviews: 30th March & 2nd April (if you aren’t available these dates, please do let us know in your application as we can be flexible including evening interviews)

Start Date: Week commencing 12th April (flexible)

To apply please send a very short CV (no more than 2 sides of A4) and a short covering letter telling us a bit about yourself, why you are interested in the role and what makes you passionate about theatre or music. Send it by email to hello@lizcounsell.com
